ALBANY, NY – Today, ALIGN: The Alliance for a Greater New York launched ads in defense of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) as New York State budget negotiations continue and the law’s fate remains unclear. Governor Hochul has signaled her interest in further delaying the law’s mandates for greenhouse gas emissions regulations from 2030 to 2040 as well as shifting the way the state calculates emissions.

The ads will appear on the Times Union’s homepage today, reminding Albany insiders of the many benefits of New York’s Climate Law and the transition to green energy with the message “1 in 7 New Yorkers are behind on their energy bills. Clean Energy Costs Less; invest in our jobs, our health, and our future. Governor Hochul: Don’t Pull a Trump. Protect Our Climate Law.”

Additionally, a mobile truck will be circling the New York State Capitol today through Thursday featuring ads with Governor Hochul in a “Make Fossil Fuels Great Again” hat and urging “Don’t Pull a Trump. Protect Our Climate Law.” as negotiations between the Governor and Senate and Assembly leadership continue. The ads remind Albany insiders that as the Trump administration rolls back decades of climate progress, New York’s best defense is upholding the CLCPA.  If implemented proactively, the Climate Law’s many benefits include significant job creation, widespread improvements to public health, and a pathway to a sustainable future, particularly for the Black, brown, and immigrant New Yorkers in environmental justice communities bearing the brunt of the climate crisis’ impacts.

ALIGN Executive Director Theodore A. Moore said, “To negotiate the future of our jobs and our health behind closed doors is an affront to New Yorkers and a smoke-and-mirrors giveaway to corporate polluters. We won’t be fooled. Our Climate Law was fought for and won by workers and communities on the front lines of our climate crisis as a matter of life and death — not a line item, not a bargaining chip. Clean energy costs us far less, and protecting the CLCPA is the only path to a healthy, safe, affordable future for all of us.”
