Trump’s EPA Rollback is Another Racist Attack on
Environmental Justice Communities — NY’s Leaders Must Step Up
NEW YORK, NY – In response to the news that the Trump administration’s Environmental Protection Agency plans to eliminate the endangerment finding rule limiting greenhouse gas emissions, ALIGN released the following statement:
“Decades of science show that burning fossil fuels for energy is toxic to the environment and public health. Now, Trump plans to further gut the EPA by deregulating pollution from cars, power plants, and other harmful industries. Make no mistake: this is another attack on Black, Brown, and immigrant communities that are already enduring the worst impacts of the climate crisis, not to mention Trump’s racist agenda of escalating ICE raids and fatal cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. And following deadly flooding in Texas and North Carolina after cuts to the National Weather Service, this is one more corporate giveaway to the fossil fuel industry’s bottom line while our communities suffer. Our City and State leaders must step up now — to enforce New York’s Climate Act and explore regulatory and legislative paths to aggressively accelerate climate action. It’s a matter of life and death,” said Jenille Scott, ALIGN Climate Director.
