Carl Lipscombe is the Director of Organizing at ALIGN. For over 15 years Carl has organized low income black and immigrant workers and communities; litigated on behalf of indigent defendants, low wage workers, and undocumented immigrants; and worked with grassroots organizations, worker centers, and unions to affect policy change on the local, state, and national levels. Prior to joining ALIGN, Carl served as Deputy Director of the Black Alliance for Just Immigration, a national racial and economic justice organization representing nearly 10 million immigrants and refugees. He has worked with some of the most transformative labor & community alliances in the country, including National Guestworker Alliance, Right To The City, and the national office of Jobs with Justice. Carl began his career at ALIGN’s predecessor organization, New York Jobs with Justice, where he served in a number of capacities including lead organizer, communications coordinator, and student organizer. Carl received a B.A. in Philosophy from Brooklyn College, studied Urban Planning and Policy at NYU and received a law degree from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
