Jessica Quiason is the Strategic Researcher of ALIGN. As a researcher on the Transform Don’t Trash campaign, she has coordinated research efforts across a coalition of labor and community groups and has been lead author on a number of reports lifting up safety issues in the waste industry, the economic benefits of increasing recycling, and community health risks associated with pollution caused by commercial trucks. She is proud to have worked on a campaign that influenced Mayor de Blasio’s commitment to implement commercial waste zones in New York City. She is also actively researching opportunities to widen the safety net for low-income and underemployed families that have been traditionally excluded from federal and state programs for aid. She started her career in research at 1199SEIU – UHE, where she helped identify opportunities to expand membership across community health centers and long term care facilities in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. She initiated research that helped prompt statewide investigations of employer-sponsored health plans for home care workers. When not hammering away on reports or Excel spreadsheets, she bakes and cooks and travels.
