ALIGN Celebrates the Signing of the Climate Change Superfund Act,
Calls for Bold Action in 2025
ALBANY, NY – In response to Governor Hochul signing the Climate Change Superfund Act into law, Theodore A. Moore, ALIGN Executive Director, released the following statement:
“It’s finally time for corporate polluters to pay for the damage they’ve caused — the Climate Change Superfund Act is a huge win that will reinvest $75 billion into the communities most impacted by toxic air pollution, record-breaking storms, and dangerous heat waves. But we can’t correct course on our rapidly worsening climate crisis one bill at a time. In 2025, we need massive investments and bold action from New York’s leaders to transform our state into an equitable renewable economy with green union jobs, affordable energy bills for working families, and resilient infrastructure for a healthy, sustainable future.”
Background:
- The Climate Change Superfund Act (S.2129/ A.3351) Holds New York’s worst polluters accountable, penalizing those who are financially liable for harms caused and existing environment pollution. Funds would finance infrastructure improvements, upgrade stormwater and sewage systems, and improve grid stability and public health across New York state. Projects must be completed using project labor agreements with no less than a prevailing wage and are encouraged to participate in apprenticeship programs.
