As Trump Attacks Climate, Governor Hochul Has a Choice:
Take Action or Do His Bidding

New York, NY – In response to President Trump’s executive order blocking enforcement of state emissions cap laws, including New York’s Cap and Invest program, ALIGN released the following statement:

“Last night, President Trump released another executive order sacrificing the American people on his altar of oligarchy, all under the guise of knowing what’s best for our future. The narrative that the American energy industry can only thrive by polluting communities and destroying our environment is patently false — we have the solutions to move our nation to clean energy, transition fossil fuel jobs to renewable ones, and make America a leader in sustainability. It’s a matter of political will. The White House’s opposition to ‘policies that make energy more expensive and degrade quality of life’ is a hypocritical smokescreen; continuing on this fossil fuel-blazed path will destroy our planet, ruin our health, exacerbate our spiraling affordability crisis as costs are pushed to working families, and cost us untold lives lost to climate change.

It is our Governor’s duty to stand up to the White House in these moments. Each day that passes with further delays to New York’s Cap and Invest and Climate Change Superfund programs and minimal investment in climate action, Governor Hochul is doing the bidding of Trump’s corporate playbook. We demand the immediate release of remaining Cap and Invest regulations, aggressive climate investments, and no more obstructions for New York’s climate laws, as we run up against the climate clock and the federal threats to come,” said Theodore A. Moore, ALIGN Executive Director
