When the Mayor Says His ‘Best Budget Ever’ is Baseline,
He Means the Bare Minimum
New York, NY – In response to Mayor Adams’ FY2026 Executive Budget, ALIGN released the following statement:
“When Mayor Adams touts his ‘best budget ever for families’ as a baseline, he means the bare minimum. Flanked by a crowd of school children, the Mayor failed to envision a path to universal childcare or green, healthy learning environments for students. He celebrated affordability while in the background, he’s raising the rent. And under his leadership, insufficient wages have made it harder and harder for families to buy groceries, pay soaring utility bills, or see the doctor. He took some positive steps — expanding after school programs and restoring funding for 3K — but we won’t solve our climate and affordability crises by maintaining the status quo. Today on International Workers’ Day, the working families who built this city will continue to fight back to demand more than Mayor Adams’ best — equity, dignity, and justice for all New Yorkers, no matter their zip code,” said Theodore A. Moore, ALIGN Executive Director.
