As Cuomo Resigns, Kathy Hochul Must Lead to

Protect Workers and Build a Green Economy

New York – Today, ALIGN, an influential advocacy group that brings together labor unions, community organizations, and environmental justice groups across New York, released a response to the resignation of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo:

“The resignation of Governor Cuomo is what is best for the future of New York. We thank the women who came forward to tell their stories. Sexual harassment has no place anywhere, especially in our government. This resignation is a result of their bravery,” said Maritza Silva-Farrell, Executive Director of ALIGN. “Right now, during a pandemic and an ongoing climate crisis, we need leadership that will move our efforts to a sustainable economy that puts workers first. It has been clear that Cuomo has been incapable of leading in such a dire time. New York will finally have its first female governor, Kathy Hochul, and we are looking forward to working with her to move us to a more just and equitable New York.”

“As Kathy Hochul steps into leading our state, we must see that New York is moving towards a just recovery. Our focus must be prioritizing on the climate crisis and the pandemic. This includes ensuring a strong implementation of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act so that we can reach net zero emissions in New York. We must also move quickly on the implementation of the NY HERO Act so that workers get the protections they need to slow the spread of Covid-19.” said Silva-Farrell.
