Governor Hochul’s Affordability Agenda Shortchanges New Yorkers
Albany, NY – In response to Governor Hochul’s FY2026 Executive Budget proposal, ALIGN: The Alliance for a Greater New York, released the following statement:
“Today, Governor Hochul shared the numbers behind her affordability agenda, and in every category, New Yorkers are getting short-changed. One-time checks and tax cuts can’t make up for wages that have fallen far behind what it takes to make ends’ meet. And $1 billion for climate in a massive $252 billion budget may be unprecedented, but it’s also unacceptable. Year after year, New York’s low-income and Black and brown communities are paying the price of our worsening climate crisis in health and home, yet as the Governor invokes the federal threats of economic and climate rollbacks, she offers little vision for the protections this moment demands.
In 2025, ALIGN will be fighting to limit corporate power, invest in good green careers, raise the wage, and deliver climate justice, because building a New York that’s green, resilient, and affordable for every New Yorker is what will truly keep us safe,” said Theodore A. Moore, ALIGN Executive Director.
