The Alliance for a Greater New York kicks offs a new campaign aimed at getting city businesses to recycle more.

The launch of "Transform, Don't Trash NYC" coincides with the release of a new report highlighting inefficiencies in the city's waste management system.

According to the report, 90 percent of the trash from restaurants and other businesses could be composted and recycled, but more than half of it winds up in landfills or is incinerated.

That's an estimated 2 million tons of unused garbage every year.

They lay the blame on what they say is a lack of oversight in waste collection, calling the industry a "wild west" with too many commercial garbage companies handling too few routes.
