New York Jobs with Justice, Queens College Labor Resource Center and the Brennan Center for Justice collaborated on this report, released in 2005. The report shows that high prices at gourmet groceries do not mean high wages for workers. In fact, many workers face not just low wages, but no overtime pay, few benefits, discrimination, abusive working conditions, and little opportunity for upward mobility. The report has been used to educate NYC consumers about the realities of a fast-growing segment of New York City’s food retail industry.
