Student activists with the Sunrise Movement occupy Nancy Pelosi’s office to demand that she and the Democrats act on climate change
ALIGN is proud to honor the Sunrise Movement as a 2019 Movement Builder for growing a youth-led movement that has sparked national momentum on the climate crisis and catalyzed action on critical policies at the local, state, and federal level.
Sunrise is building an army of young people to make climate change an urgent priority while creating millions of good jobs across America, to end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel executives, and elect leaders who stand up for the health and well-being of all people. Last fall, Sunrise sat in at Nancy Pelosi’s office demanding that she back the Green New Deal. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined and this action catapulted the plan into the national spotlight. Since then, over 100 Members of Congress and nearly all Presidential candidates have backed the Green New Deal.
Sunrise has continued to be relentless in its calls for climate action across the country, supporting a plethora of local environmental wins and continuing to build political power to realize a Green New Deal.
