There are no winners in a war. On the first day of US-Israel’s illegal assault on Iran, a Tomahawk missile hit an Iranian girls’ elementary school, killing more than 170 people, mostly children. Since then, the death toll has risen to the thousands in Iran and Lebanon, and hundreds more across the Middle East. So far, American taxpayers have spent an estimated $1 billion dollars a day to fund this war. Meanwhile, oil prices are skyrocketing up to 60%, and the cost of goods is rising as a result. At the local level, Governor Hochul has not only failed to meet the moment, but is choosing to betray frontline Black and brown communities affected by the fossil fuels that are killing us and pricing us out. Instead of shifting away from our dependence on oil and gas, the Governor announced rollbacks to New York’s Climate Law, threatening our pathway toward renewable energy, clean air, and lower energy bills. Climate denialism, war crimes, and skyrocketing costs of goods. The realities between our elected leadership and the needs of the people could not be farther apart. The stakes are too high to surrender. This past weekend, hundreds of thousands of people rallied and marched in 100 No Kings actions across the country. This month, ALIGN launched a historic $30 minimum wage campaign in New York City, with another $30 minimum wage campaign in Oakland launched shortly after. Every single day this month, New Yorkers are pushing back on Hochul’s attack on our climate laws. We are sending a clear message that we will not let oligarchs determine our economic and climate future. |

Every New Yorker deserves to thrive. Every worker deserves a fair wage. This month, our Raise Up NY coalition launched a historic campaign to fight for a $30 minimum wage in New York City. Our $17 minimum wage is too low. Earning the minimum wage shouldn’t mean living in poverty, but working people are struggling to afford rent, groceries, and life in NYC. A decade ago, fast-food workers in New York led the way when they walked out of their jobs demanding a $15 minimum wage and a union–a demand that would spread nationwide and become the movement known as the Fight for $15. Today, our Raise Up NY coalition, made up of community organizations, labor unions, and worker centers, is continuing the fight for a dignified wage. Mayor Mamdani supported raising the minimum wage to $30 by 2030 in his campaign affordability agenda, and voters turned out in historic numbers to elect him. Defending New York’s Climate Law |

Governor Hochul is pulling a Trump on our climate action. Amid an escalating global climate emergency, as the Trump government destroys federal climate protections, New York should be stepping up to lead the nation. Instead, Governor Hochul is rolling back key parts of New York’s climate law, the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, to weaken our legal commitments to climate action, slow down our pathway to reduce pollution, and roll back protections for the frontline communities most impacted by the climate crisis. We won’t stand for her climate denialism. New Yorkers across the state have been mobilizing all month to defend New York’s Climate law. From Buffalo to New York City, activists are confronting Governor Hochul wherever she moves. In Albany, 21 activists were arrested in protest of the rollbacks. Over one thousand students rallied at the State Capitol for a Youth Day of Action. Now is the time for state leadership to step up and get to work. No rollbacks. No accounting tricks. No delays. Just bold investments in climate and clean energy to lower energy costs and benefit the people of New York, both today and tomorrow. |
