NEW YORK (August 7, 2022) – Maritza Silva-Farrell, Executive Director of ALIGN, leader in the Climate Works for All, New Yorkers for a Fair Economy, and NY Renews coalitions, released the following statement in response to the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022:
“The Inflation Reduction Act makes historic investments in renewable energy technologies including wind and solar, industrial decarbonization, clean transportation, and greener, healthier schools and buildings that will create an estimated one million green jobs. These funds will be critical to achieve our climate goals in New York’s nation leading laws: Local Law 97 and the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act,” said Maritza Silva-Farrell.
“Yet, the momentum to move toward a green sustainable economy is threatened by continued pandering to the fossil fuel industry, led by an unconscionable crusade from Senator Joe Manchin and his friends from the planet-killing oil and fossil fuel industry. These companies have the duty to transition to renewable energy for the sake of fossil-fuel dependent workers and the health of environmental justice communities. When heat waves, drought, and storms are killing people around the globe, it’s no time for compromise.
“We also applaud the IRA’s provisions to improve the lives of working families and small businesses while holding the wealthiest corporations accountable to what they owe the American people. Corporate greed is fueling high prices on everyday goods and services, leaving working families to suffer while CEOs pocket record-breaking profits. It’s time to hold big businesses accountable. It’s what the American people want, and it’s what the IRA will do,” said Silva-Farrell.
