ALIGN response to Mayor Mamdani’s Preliminary Budget
New York, NY – In response to Mayor Mamdani’s FY2027 Preliminary Budget, ALIGN released the following statement:
“While Mayor Mamdani’s winning affordability agenda gave our city hope for a new era, his preliminary budget offers a narrow vision for solutions to our fiscal crisis. New York is no stranger to crisis — from the daily struggle of our cost-of-living crisis to escalating threats to public health and climate – and in turn, we need broad solutions. One such solution is Green, Healthy Schools. Upgrading our public schools to be resilient, green energy havens would slash city energy costs, create hundreds of thousands of new union jobs, and invest in our local green economy. Mamdani’s sole climate promise on the campaign trail will only get more expensive the longer we wait — not just for the City, but for the families in NYC’s environmental justice communities paying for our neglect with school absences and hospital visits. In the final budget, we hope to see a clearer vision for our city’s future – one that invests long-term in a green, affordable, and healthy New York, ” said Theodore A. Moore, ALIGN Executive Director.
