During Jobs Week, Mayor Adams Should Deliver Green Jobs & Higher Wages

New York, NY – During “Jobs Week,” Mayor Adams has made several announcements including an expansion of the Jobs NYC program. In response, ALIGN: The Alliance for a Greater New York, released the following statement:

“Expanding access to jobs is a good step, but Mayor Adams continues to ignore the bigger picture for a healthy city — the ‘economically-disadvantaged communities’ he aims to support are also the communities experiencing the harshest impacts of our climate crisis. The win-win solution is already in front of him: if we fund and fully implement Local Law 97 as mandated, we’ll create thousands of green, union jobs that can both sustain families and transform our city to be clean and breathable.

“In addition to creating new, sustainable jobs, Mayor Adams must ensure that all New Yorkers are earning enough to make ends’ meet. As it stands, workers are taking on multiple jobs in order to pay their rent and buy groceries, because our minimum wage is only about half of the living wage. To make New York City the best, most affordable place to raise a family, as Adams has promised, we need universal childcare, affordable housing, and wages that reflect the cost of living — transformational policies for the thriving city we deserve,” said Theodore A. Moore, ALIGN Executive Director.
