Raise Up NY

Fighting for a higher minimum wage

ABOUT

Raise Up NY was formed in 2022 as a coalition of labor unions, small businesses, and community organizations fighting for a higher minimum wage in New York. Following the success of the national Fight for $15 campaign, the Raise Up NY coalition is committed to raising wages across the board and protecting and restoring the dignity of New York’s working families.

OUR WINS

In 2023, Raise Up NY won minimum wage increases to $17 in downstate NY and $16 in upstate NY by 2026. After 2026, the minimum wage will be indexed to inflation when unemployment is low. This wage increase means over 1,100,000 New Yorkers will earn an extra $670 in their pockets.

Raise Up NY is also supporting organizing at a municipal and county level to raise the local minimum wage.

CURRENT CAMPAIGNS

Upstate Parity and Minimum Wage Protection Act:  The Raise Up NY coalition is advocating for the Upstate Parity and Minimum Wage Protection Act, sponsored by Senator Jessica Ramos and Assemblymember Harry Bronson, to ensure that there is one statewide minimum wage and end a dangerous loophole that prevents guaranteed annual raises.

Local fights: We’re also supporting campaigns to win local minimum wage increases in cities and counties. In 2024, a local campaign composed of Raise Up NY coalition members in the Ithaca area pushed county legislators to vote 11-3 to evaluate gradually raising the local minimum wage. This sends a clear message that we must invest in working families to end our cost-of-living crisis.
