What are the liberals saying about Gov. Cuomo’s budget?

Governor Andrew Cuomo's budget address is winning accolades from North Country lawmakers, with Republican state Senator Betty Little praising the plan and Assemblywoman Teresa Sayward sounding cautiously enthusiastic. But liberals groups are angry about this Democratic governor's approach to closing the $10 billion dollar deficit.


Appointment with destiny

Andrew Cuomo may not have appointed Kenneth Adams as head of the Empire State Development Corp. last week if former Brooklyn Heights Councilman David Yassky had been more successful in a run for higher office...The appointment met with skepticism from Coalition for Economic Justice Executive Director Allison Duwe, who said Mr. Adams “has lobbied heavily against reforms that would ensure high perform-ance, accountability and transparency in how New York spends its economic development dollars.”

Andrew Cuomo turned to a key ally in the business community to head the state's economic development agency...Business groups applauded the choice, in part because Adams has backed Cuomo's call for reducing state spending and imposing a property tax cap...But Allison Duwe, executive director of the Buffalo-based Coalition for Economic Justice, said Adams has lobbied against reforms that would require more corporate accountability.
