Cuomo’s Tax Free Giveaway the Latest in $7 Billion Yearly Bonanza for the Rich in New York State

WBAI, By Mimi Rosenberg and Ken Nash, June 24, 2013. A new economic development proposal pushed by Governor Cuomo was passed by the State legislature, without serious debate or public input. It creates  tax-free zones on college campuses for new and expanding businesses.  The governor's "Start-Up NY" program creates more tax loopholes at a time when the state can least afford it, when state and local governments are cutting the services that New Yorkers depend on.

Pulse of The People: Tax-Free NY won’t work

The Record, OpEd, By Lawrence Wittner, June 22, 2013. Should a public university be transformed into a corporate welfare project? That’s the key question surrounding “Tax-Free NY,” a new plan zealously promoted by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, with nation-wide implications.

Under the provisions of his scheme, most of the 64 campuses of the SUNY system, some private colleges, and zones adjacent to SUNY campuses would be thrown open to private businesses that would be exempted from state taxes on sales, property, the income of their owners, and the income of their employees for a period of 10 years

Letter: Tax-free zones bad for taxpayers

Albany Times Union, Letter to Editor By Bill Ritchie, June 20, 2013. The results of New York's many "economic development" boondoggles are in.
The Alliance for a Greater New York reports taxpayers are spending $7 billion on corporate subsidies in the name of job creation.

Billions for Economic Development, But Where are the Jobs?

The Labor Press, By Marc Bussanich, June 14, 2013. New York spends $7 billion annually for economic development, but there’s no way to know how many, if any, jobs were created with that money because the recipients do a poor job in reporting, according to a new report. The Alliance for a Greater New York, a community-based organization focused on job creation, issued the report, “The $7 Billion Wager: New York’s Costly Gamble in Economic Development,” during a presser in Albany on Wednesday, May 29.
